Product Description
Cumin has really had a tumultuous past. Did you know that the greeks used to add it to wine? Very odd. Even odder, is that the Romans would put it in bread to stop wood spirits from stealing their delicious loaf. They actually believed that you could sprinkle some on any object that you wanted to keep safe from theft. They also believed that to have a successful crop the farmer must curse while sowing the cumin seed. We joke around a lot here at Anthony’s but those are all serious. Seriously.
Thank goodness that by the Middle ages people figured out that it's delicious in food! Now, by many standards, cumin is the most ubiquitous spice in world cuisine. Found in foods from the Mediterranean to Mexico to India, it’s been around the block, if you get our meaning. In Mexico you can find it in a traditional mole, in hummus from the Mediterranean, and in India in a number of their curries. It’s all over the place! Want a few more examples you say? Sure! In Holland, they use it to flavors meats and even cheeses! Also, it can be found in a wide variety of baked goods as well. It’s the spice that’s very nice!
Our USDA Organic Cumin Powder is Certified Organic. Also it is batch tested and verified Gluten-Free.
