Ingredients
Ingredients for the candied orange peel: • 4 medium organic oranges • 1 cup water • 1 cup Anthony’s Goods Cane Sugar Ingredients for the vegan dark chocolate: • ½ cup Anthony’s Goods Organic Cocoa Butter Chunks • 1 ½-2 tbsp organic maple syrup • ¼ cup Anthony’s Goods Organic Cocoa Powder • Pinch of salt
Instructions
These delicate candied orange peels are dipped in vegan chocolate, making them a perfect homemade gift or a delicious treat just for yourself. 1. Wash the oranges well, scrubbing the peels to remove any dirt. Quarter then peel them carefully, and avoid tearing the peel. Slice the peels into thin strips, then add them to a pot with enough water to cover them. Boil them for five minutes and toss out the water. Repeat this process one more time. 2. In another pot, add the water and sugar and bring it to a simmer. Add the orange peels into this pot and simmer for 45-50 minutes. The peels will appear translucent when they are ready. 3. Remove the peels from the syrup and place them on a wire rack to dry. Let them cool completely. 4. When the peels have cooled, make the chocolate: Add a few inches of water to a saucepan and bring to a boil. Place a large bowl on top (make sure the bottom of the bowl does not touch the water directly) and fill it with the cocoa butter chunks. Stir until the chunks melt. Add the maple syrup and whisk to combine. Then add in the cocoa powder and stir again, until a smooth melted chocolate forms. 5. Dip the orange peels partly or entirely in the chocolate and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place them in the fridge or freezer until the chocolate has set.
