Food and Allergy safety is a topic we take very seriously at Anthony’s. In order to be fully transparent with our customers, we do not state or make the declaration that our products are produced in a fully gluten free facility. However, we do test every batch of every item we produce that is gluten free, to ensure that the product is in fact gluten free.

Along with maintaining an audit trail and proper food safety cleaning, handling & packing procedures, we harbor the expense of batch testing each lot to ensure that the product is indeed chemically gluten free below the FDA guideline of 20 parts per million and follow good manufacturing procedures throughout the preparation process.

Similarly, if a claim is not printed on a product, then the potential or unintentional presence of major food allergens in foods resulting from "cross-contact" situations during manufacturing may exist. The major food allergens identified by the FDA are as follows: milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans.
Per FDA Guidance, a “May Contain Statement” is not a substitute for adhering to current good manufacturing practices.
Even though most of our foods are run on their own lines, and all of our food packing procedures follow good manufacturing practices, we cannot guarantee that there is no chance of “cross-contact”. For that reason, we stay in line with the FDA guidelines on food packaging, and do not make any claim that the product is entirely allergen free. Thanks for the inquiry! In short, we are not ‘Fair Trade Certified’, even though our business is built upon the very values they promote. However, we are often asked why we are not ‘Fair Trade Certified’ so in the interest of being fully transparent, we want to clarify our position.
As you can see, we take certifications that impact people’s health, their beliefs and their lifestyles very seriously. A majority of Anthony’s items are certified, batch tested gluten free and certified organic.
What many people do not know is that ‘Fair Trade Certified’ is actually an entity that charges for the use of their logo. Even if Anthpony’s buys fair trade product, that is ‘Fair Trade Certified’, we can not claim that it is ‘Fair Trade Certified’ without paying for the use of their logo.
That said, we believe that they are a great organization and a good option for many companies, but in the end Fair Trade is a certifying agency and as such they charge for their certification service. Like many other companies, we choose to not be certified and pass on the savings to our customers, but are still buying ethically and doing our part to protect the farmers and their families while promoting fair trade. This approach cuts out the middleman while keeping the price of our products as low as possible.

California Prop 65 are displayed commonly throughout California - in hotels, amusement parks, restaurants, grocery stores, hospitals, and on a multitude of consumer products, even outside of food items. You will also see these warnings on the internet, like those displayed on anthonysgoods.com and certain Anthony's Goods products listed on Amazon.com. These warnings are provided pursuant to a California labeling law called Proposition 65 (Prop 65), which is meant to notify consumers in California of potential exposures to Prop 65-listed chemicals. Prop 65 is a right-to-know law. Meaning that it does not ban the sale of any products that contain these chemicals, but merely requires that consumer be informed.
Nearly all foods naturally contain trace amounts of heavy metals, as heavy metals are naturally occurring elements of earth. Due to the State of California's maximum allowable level of heavy metals being extremely low, foods that naturally contain heavy metals, such as turmeric or cocoa powder, must be labeled with Prop 65 warnings in order to comply with California law. It is important to note that the maximum allowable level in California is a fraction of that required for reporting by the FDA and much lower than the amount required by the World Health Organization (WHO) or European Union Standards. California remains the only region to require Prop 65 labelling for heavy metal levels so low, that organic fruits and vegetables, untouched from Mother Earth, would be considered as violating the law if unlabeled.

Yes! We are working hard to get it back in stock. Usually this happens with new items as we (sometimes) are not able to correctly gauge the demand. Also, it happens (again, sometimes) with other items if we have a specific farmer/producer whose product and quality we like and won’t compromise on. So please, bear with us!

Unfortunately we cannot tell you the exact date of expiration as lots vary based on which shipping facility our product is coming from. We can assure you that there is at least 3 months of shelf life and can extend all the way up to 24 months based on the product. Each product varies in shelf life.

Since these bags are shipped instead of picked up at your local grocery store, due to all the moving around, sometimes a little powder gets in the plastic zipper line blocking the zipper from being able to complete seal.
We suggest taking a toothpick and clearing the zipper line - that should fix your issue!
That should fix your issue, if not you can move the product to any other storage container and it will be fine!
Your product is shelf stable, and can be stored in a cool, dry space like a pantry or cupboard. We also have found that storing it in the fridge or freezer may help extend shelf-life, but it is best to use the best by dates as a general guideline.
The notion of shelf dates are really for guideline reasons and not a requirement by the USDA, instead, food products should be inspected before use and if they develop an off odor, flavor or appearance due to spoilage or bacteria, should not be used for quality reasons.
